CGNK Contributes to World Report on Culture of Peace
The Center for Global Nonkilling has participated in the World Report on Culture of Peace, prepared by the Foundation for a Culture of Peace. The Report was sent to UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, in May and will be presented to the General Assembly of the United Nations in October.
An international team of young volunteers, managed to collect and analyze information provided by over 1,000 organizations worldwide, which reflected its efforts and activities for the protection and promotion of a Culture of Peace. These were described by applying the eight aspects that compose and found to be specific indicators of concrete action: Education for a Culture of Peace, sustainable economic and social development, respect for human rights, equality between men and women, democratic participation, understanding, tolerance and solidarity, free flow of information and international peace and security. The report is available online.
A second version of the report will be presented in December 2010, at the World Education Forum “Education, Research and Culture of Peace” to be held in Santiago de Compostela (Galiza), with the presence of CGNK as a member of the Forum’s Organizing Committee. The final report will be published in the first quarter of 2011.
