Second Global Nonkilling Leadership Academy is Underway
The Center for Global Nonkilling is conducing its Second Global Nonkilling Leadership Academy in Honolulu, October 3-15. The Academy is intended to provide a select group of promising young leaders a life changing experience related to the real and much needed possibilities of a world where killing is no longer taken for granted.
The 2010 Academy is being convened with 15 participants from Canada, China, Colombia, Haiti, India, Ireland, Israel, Kenya, Liberia, Philippines, Rwanda, Trinidad and the United States. The goal is to have an international network of at least 100 nonkilling leaders, in various spheres of influence and at least 35 countries, by 2015, who support efforts to end killing in its various forms.
CGNK considers building and supporting the capacity of young leaders an essential part of affecting change over time and making progress toward eliminated killing. As such, CGNK convenes an international nonkilling leadership academy each year, and is developing other leadership initiatives as well, such as regional leadership workshops. In 2009 CGNK conducted its pilot Nonkilling Leadership Academy, with 12 participants – from Liberia, Western Sahara, Italy, Palestine, Germany, Kenya, Thailand, Philippines, India, the United States and Hawai’i itself. Participants were nominated by past Nobel Peace Laureates, as well as drawn from organizations and networks partnering with the Center for Global Nonkilling.
