Nonkilling Receives New Awards and Distinctions
The vision of a nonkilling society continues to receive further acknowledgement through various awards and distinctions, including the Jamnalal Bajaj International Award to CGNK founder Glenn Paige, the El-Hibri Peace Education Prize to CGNK associate Chaiwat Satha-Anand and the Creighton University Distinguished Lecture to CGNK Director Joám Evans Pim.
The Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation International Award recognizes the “Promoting Gandhian Values Outside India” and celebrates the example of Gandhian Trusteeship by Jamnalal Bajaj who contributed greatly to success of the nonviolent Indian Independence Movement and its constructive programmes. The 2012 Presentation Function is scheduled for November 15 at the Yashvantrao Chavan Centre, Deneral Jagannath Bhosale Marg, Mumbai, and will have Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President of India as Chief Guest.
Chaiwat Satha-Anand has also been awarded with the 2012 El-Hibri Peace Education Prize by the El‐Hibri Charitable Foundation recognizing his pioneering research and work in Islamic nonviolence and efforts for peace in Thailand. Professor Satha-Anand CGNK publications include the 1993 Islam and Nonviolence and 1998 The Frontiers of Nonviolence.
CGNK Director Joám Evans Pim was also invited as Distinguished Lecturer for Creighton University’s 2012-2013 Asian World Center Lecture Series, delivering a speech on October 10 focusing on Glenn Paige’s vision of nonkilling and its connection with Asia. Evans Pim was also a Guest Speaker for the 2012 Nebraska State Council for Social Science Studies Annual Conference, sponsored by the Asian World Center.
