Nonkilling examined in Leiden University, The Netherlands
CGNK Director Joám Evans Pim was invited to participate in the “Obstacles and Catalysts of Peaceful Behavior ” workshop, organized by the Lorentz Center at Leiden University, The Netherlands, March 18-22. The concept of nonkilling and the work of the Center were presented during the final topical session “Peace Systems”, convened by Douglas Fry.
The workshop included perspectives from natural and social science fields such as political science, primatology, nomadic forager studies, human behavioral ecology, and evolutionary biology, bringing together over fifty scholars from a dozen countries. The workshop was focused on providing new insights into the causes, mechanisms, function and persistence of peaceful behavior in nature, society, and human nature; identifying new research questions concerning obstacles and catalysts of peaceful behavior; and facilitating the establishment of new networks through which natural and social scientists can collaboratively pursue productive research on peaceful behavior.
