Nonkilling Education Workshop at University of Corunha
CGNK Director Joám Evans Pim was invited by the Faculty of Education of the University of Corunha, Galiza, to teach a workshop on the topic “Challenging the Mythology of Innate Violence: Cultivating a Culture of Peace”. The workshop was held on March 1, 2016, as part of the University’s Cultural Extension Lecture series and was mainly focused to future teachers and education specialists, with over 100 students participating, mostly from the undergraduate program on Education for Peace, Conflict Resolution and Citizenship.
After an introductory lecture by Joám that presented the nonkilling approach to overcoming the ideology of lethality, an open discussion and small group discussions were facilitated by Prof. Cathryn Teasley, a member of CGNK’s Nonkilling Education Research Committee and coordinator of Educadores pola Paz (Peace Educators), the oldest peace education organization in Spain founded in 1981.
