Nonkilling to be taught at UNESCO Chair of Philosophy for Peace Master’s degree
The UNESCO Chair of Philosophy for Peace, at Jaume I University, Castelló, houses the University Master’s Degree in International Peace, Conflict and Development Studies, that sets out to inaugurate its 24th edition next Fall. The 2018/19 academic course will include an optional subject “New Tendencies in Peace and Conflict Studies” to be taught in Spanish by CGNK Director Joám Evans Pim, featuring nonkilling as part of its syllabus. Jaume I University had already published the Spanish translation of Glenn Paige’s Nonkilling Global Political Science in 2012, with a preface by Juanes.
The Master’s program is constructed around the underlying ideas that “There is no single way of understanding peace. There are as many ways of making peace as there are diverse people and cultures.” The curriculum promotes specific education in the areas of peace theories, conflicts, development cooperation, humanitarian aid, peace cultures, democracy, human rights, communication by peaceful means, gender and postcolonial studies. It also focuses on instruments for peaceful conflict prevention and transformation. The Master’s Degree was introduced in 1996 and has become well established over its twenty-three year course.
A leaflet features the full description of the topics of the Master that also represents an unique intercultural experience, interacting with students and lecturers from more than 30 countries coming from all continents. The first phase of the preregistration ends next 22nd June, but there will be a second one from the 30th July to the 5th September. For detailed information visit the program’s webpage and Facebook .
