Center for Nonkilling and Development in Bangladesh initiates lecture series
The Centre for Nonkilling and Development at the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh, an affiliate of the Center for Global Nonkilling, is to start a lecture series on nonkilling studies this semester. The series was announced at a session of the Master’s program on Political Science by Professor Rashida Khanam, founder of the new academic institution for the promotion of a killing-free Bangladesh in a nonkilling world. The event was also a tribute to Prof. Glenn Paige with the participation of the Dean of Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Fariduddin, the Chairman of the Department of Political Science, Prof. Dr. Yeahia Akhter as well as Prof. Dr. Bhuiya Monowar Kabir and Prof. Dr. Mustafizur Rahman Siddique, both from the Department of Political Science.
The establishment of the Centre for Nonkilling and Development is the result of a long process of maturation of a project, that started with the translation and publicationof the Bangla edition of Glenn Paige’s book Nonkilling Global Political Science by Professor Rashida Khanam, and was recommended at the 27th meeting of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Chittagong on May 11, 2017. The proposal was later approved at the 233th Academic Council meeting, held on May 25, 2017, and ratified by the Syndicate of the University at its 509th meeting held on June 10, 2017.
