CGNK at Violence Prevention Alliance 2018 Annual Meeting
The Center for Global Nonkilling participated at the 2018 Violence Prevention Alliance Annual Meeting that took place in Berlin, Germany, 24-25 October 2018, under the theme Linking Public Health and Criminal Justice to Prevent Interpersonal Violence. The meeting was hosted on behalf of the World Health Organization’s Violence Prevention Alliance (of which CGNK is a participant) by the German Congress on Crime Prevention and the Representation of the State of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein to the Federation. CGNK was represented by its Director Joám Evans Pim.
The meeting, that gathered 40 participants from around the world, discussed new developments in the violence prevention field with a focus on how the Alliance and its members can contribute to strengthen collaborations between the health and justice sectors to stop killings and other forms of violence, illustrating possibilities through examples and experiences from Germany, South Africa, Scotland, Canada and the USA. Updates from VPA project groups were presented and new ideas for new projects discussed.
The Center for Global Nonkilling has been an active participant of the World Health Organization’s Violence Prevention Alliance since 2010, and has participated in the 4th Milestones meeting (Geneva, 2009), 2010 annual VPA meeting (Rome), 5th Milestones meeting (Cape Town, 2011), 6th Milestones meeting (Mexico, 2013), 2015 annual VPA meeting (Geneva) and 8th Milestones meeting (Ottawa, 2017).
