Nonkilling Featured at Prague Impact Summit
CGNK’s UN Gender Focal Point Elina Viitasaari was invited to participate at opening ceremony of the The Second Impact Summit that was held in Prague, Czech Republic, from 7th to 9th of June 2019 at the Yugra Alliance Congress Center. Elina offered a speech on how violence and discrimination against women is a global, everyday problem, affecting each and every one of us either directly or indirectly, after the organizers, the Impact Summit Foundation, decided to focus the conference on the 5th Sustainable Development Goal, Gender Equality. Elina presented the work of CGNK at the United Nations and how nonkilling also addresses the root causes of violence against women, providing examples from Finland and elsewhere around the world.
The Impact Summit was composed of debates in four committees which debated the 7 Sub-Goals of the 5th SDG, based on global Model United Nations (MUN) concept. The Summit was attended by students from 21 countries that had the opportunity to participate in various workshops led by professionals working among the gender equality issues. CGNK’s UN Gender Focal Point facilitated a panel about men’s role in tackling gender inequalities and advised the participating youths in their
work with creating new resolutions for violence against women.
Impact Summit is based in Prague but organizes events throughout the world, serving as an intentional process of educating students and encouraging them to become greater and more influential leaders. The aim of the summit is to connect people together and establish connections between non-governmental organizations and student bodies.
