CGNK celebrates International Day of Nonviolence

This year, the Center for Global Nonkilling will celebrate the International Day of Nonviolence in Honolulu, Hawai’i, following an invitation of Dr. Raj Kumar, founder president of the Gandhi International Institute for Peace. The International Day of Nonviolence is observed on the 2nd of October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi (in India, “Gandhi Jayanti”), and was formally established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007 (see ).

In Hawai’i, celebrations will take place at Gandhi’s statue, adjacent to the Honolulu Zoo, Waikiki. The program will start at 5:30pm and will include spiritual chanting, bollywood and folk dance, laughter yoga sessions, Japanese tea ceremony and music by the Royal Hawaiian Band. CGNK’s Chair of the Governing Council Glenn Paige will also intervene with a speech on nonkilling, together with other presentations from diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds (Hawaiian, Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Baha’i, etc.)
