Nonkilling Leadership Academy Action Plans Develop

From October 3 to 16, CGNK convened its second Nonkilling Global Leadership Academy in Honolulu, Hawai`i. Fifteen young leaders from around the world attended to learn more about nonkilling principles and strategies, and how to incorporate these concepts into their various areas of leadership. Academy Fellows came from Canada, China, Colombia, Haiti, India, Ireland, Israel, Kenya, Liberia, Philippines, Rwanda, Trinidad and the USA, representing academic, advocacy, arts, business, education, media, nonprofit and government institutions.

A major outcome from the Academy each year is the development of action plans by each Fellow. The range of activities proposed in these action plans includes a media initiative in Liberia; a mentoring program in Rwanda; dialogues in China; youth initiatives in India, Philippines, Haiti, the Caribbean, and beyond; educational and parenting initiatives in Asia and the United States; fundraising activities in Colombia and the United States; and incorporation of nonkilling principles into the work and activities of several nonprofit organizations.

CGNK now has 27 Fellows in 18 countries, which will likely expand to at least 40 Fellows in 25 countries after completion of the 2011 Academy. Most Fellows are nominated by international leaders in various arenas of leadership. In 2011, however, we are expanding the search for candidates to include self- nominations. While the selection process for the limited number of participants in 2011 will be very competitive, we encourage anyone interested in attending to contact us for more information. If you are interested, please send an email to lbotero@nonkilling.org to express interest and seek additional information about the selection process.
