A Nonkilling Reflection on the Haitian Situation
A webinar on the theme “A Nonkilling Reflection on Haitian Political Conflict, and Natural Disaster Crisis” will be held on August 25, 2021, from 6 pm to 8 pm (EST), with speakers from the Center for Global Nonkilling (CGNK) and former members of the Caribbean Center for Global Non-Violence and
Sustainable Development (CCNGD).
The webinar will focus on the the political and humanitarian situation in Haiti, and the need to continue to develop a culture of nonkilling in the country. Speakers will include Roland Joseph (covenor), Gracien Jean, Daniella Jacques, Gérald Calixte, Thomas Fee, Shisir Khanal, Christophe Barbey, Anoop Swarup, Bill Bhaneja and Joám Evans Pim. The Centre Caraïbeén pour la Non-Violence Globale et le Développement Durable (CCNGD), founded by Dr. Max Paul (1945-2014), arranged translation of the nonkilling thesis into French and Haitian Creole which led to nonkilling innovations in Francophone Africa (DR Congo, Burundi, and Rwanda) including translation into Kiswahili for grassroots community education. Dr. Max Paul also contributed to spirituality by asking if Haitian Voodoo with other faiths could become a force for nonkilling social change (available in Global Nonkilling Leadership Forum Book of Proceedings, 2008, pp. 53-57).
