Tribute to José “Pepe” Abueva (1928-2021)

The Center for Global Nonkilling, India will be organizing a new session of its online lecture series on the occasion of International Peace Day, 21 September, 2021. The session, chaired by CGNK Governing Council Chair Prof. (Dr.) Anoop Swarup, under the theme “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world” will also be paying tribute to late CGNK Governing Councl member Jose (Pepe) V. Abeuva who passed away last month on 18th August, 2021. He was 93 years old.

The event will take place via Zoom (passcode: “Peace”) and will start at 5:45 IST.

“Pepe Abueva” was former University of the Philippines and the founder and first president of Kalayaan College. He served as the 16th president of the University of the Philippines from 1987-1993 where he was also a professor emeritus of Political Science & Public Administration. A Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) awardee for political science in 1962, Abueva has also worked with the United Nations University in Tokyo. Abueva was secretary of the 1971 Constitutional Convention, executive director of the Legislative-Executive Local Government Reform Commission, and chairman of the Legislative-Executive Council that drew up the conversion program for former military bases.
