CGNK Participates in the World Education Forum
CGNK actively participated in the 2010 World Education Forum that was held in Santiago de Compostela during most of December under the auspices of the United Nations and UNESCO, focusing on peace education, peace research and culture of peace. CGNK was a co-sponsoring organization and a member of the Forum’s Organizing Committee.
Besides attending dozens of activities, CGNK placed a stall for several days in the central venue, were publications, leaflets and various materials were exhibited and information on its programs and values shared with participants. CGNK leadership team member Joám Evans Pim participated in the Conference on Human Right to Peace, chaired by Mr. Anwarul K. Chowdhury (Bangladesh), President of the International Drafting Committee of the Barcelona Declaration on the Human Right to Peace and Ms. Cora Weiss (USA), President of The Hague Appeal for Peace.
The Conference’s goal was to discuss and approve the final text of a universal declaration of the Human Right to Peace, that will be submitted in the presence of the United Nations (Human Rights’ Council), and the Statute of the International Observatory future of the Human Right to Peace. CGNK presented several amendments to the draft declaration, including two new articles: “Individuals have the right not to be killed, threatened to be killed or subjected to conditions leading to killing”; “States and individuals have the responsibility not to kill. States shall work towards the removal of lethality-linked deprivations, including socioeconomic structural conditions that are product of direct lethal reinforcement as well as the result of diversion of resources for purposes of killing.”
